Judith Keilbach is Associate Professor in the Department of Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht University's Faculty of Humanities, where she conducts research at the intersection of media history, environmental humanities, and television studies. She leads the special interest group 'Greening the Digital Society' and co-leads the 'Sustainable Media' workgroup of the European Network for Cinema and Media Studies (NECS).

Keilbach's research focuses on media infrastructures, television history and theory, media technologies, and sustainability in media production. Her work examines the transformation of television, the relationship between media technology and historiography, media events, archives, and the environmental impact of media industries. She explores how historical consciousness is shaped through media representations and how contemporary media industries can transition toward sustainable practices.
Her recent publications reveal a clear trajectory toward environmental media studies, with increasing focus on sustainable film production and the ecological footprint of media industries. While maintaining her expertise in television history and public history, her research has expanded to address urgent environmental concerns within media production and infrastructure.

As leader of the 'Greening the Digital Society' initiative and co-leader of NECS's Sustainable Media workgroup, Keilbach has established herself at the forefront of environmental media studies, fostering international collaborations and creating research networks focused on sustainable media futures.
