Judith Danovitch is a Professor of Psychological & Brain Sciences at the University of Louisville and Director of Undergraduate Studies. She holds a PhD in Psychology from Yale University (2005) and an AB in Psychology and Biology from Harvard University (2000). Her research focuses on children’s cognitive and social development, particularly how preschool and elementary school children seek, evaluate, and trust information from diverse sources, including the internet, voice assistants, and human experts. Her work examines how cultural contexts (e.g., China vs. the U.S.) and technological tools influence children’s beliefs about knowledge acquisition and STEM competence.
Dr. Danovitch’s recent studies investigate children’s interactions with emerging technologies like Google, voice assistants, and digital devices, exploring how these tools shape their understanding of expertise, truth, and evidence. Her research also addresses gender stereotypes in STEM and parents’ roles in fostering scientific curiosity. She leads the Knowledge in Development (KID) Lab, which collaborates on projects involving child development, educational technology, and cross-cultural comparisons.
Her articles frequently appear in journals like Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Development, and Computers in Human Behavior. Themes across her work include epistemic trust, information literacy, and the intersection of technology with cognitive growth.
