Judith A. Callan, PhD, RN, serves as an Associate Professor in the Health & Community Systems department within the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. With a career spanning over four decades in psychiatric nursing, she brings extensive clinical experience to her academic role. Her research program centers on leveraging technology to overcome barriers in treatment adherence, particularly in the context of mood disorders and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) homework completion. Currently, she is developing a smartphone application to enhance CBT homework adherence and is actively recruiting PhD students for mentorship.
Dr. Callan's research interests are multifaceted, focusing on:

She possesses specialized expertise in managing Mood Disorders, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Cocaine Addiction, and is certified as both a Cognitive Therapist and Pharmacotherapist.
In the classroom, Dr. Callan has instructed graduate courses including NUR 1800/2800 Coordinating Clinical Trials and NURNP 2400 Neurobiology of Psychiatric Disorders, contributing to the education of future nursing professionals.
Her scholarly achievements have been recognized through prestigious awards:
