Juanjo Celorio is an Associate Professor at the Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/EHU) and a leading figure in Emancipatory Education and Development Education. He served in the Department of Social Sciences Didactics at the University School of Teacher Training until 2015. His work focuses on transformative pedagogy, university social commitment, and critical approaches to education. Celorio has coordinated international cooperation projects in Ecuador, Guatemala, Guinea-Bissau, and Senegal, emphasizing Indigenous communities in the Amazon region.
He is actively involved with Hegoa, the Institute for Development and International Cooperation Studies, where he contributes to academic initiatives such as the 'Education for Social Transformation' congresses and publishes extensively on critical university reform, participatory methodologies, and global citizenship education. Celorio’s recent projects include exploring ecosocial and ecofeminist approaches to climate crisis education and post-pandemic social commitment strategies.
Celorio has authored or co-authored key educational guides and research reports, including works on citizenship education in Spanish autonomous communities, gender in development education, and university extension programs. His academic contributions bridge theory and practice, often collaborating with grassroots movements and international organizations to advance socially just educational practices.
