Juanita Cox

Dr Juanita Cox is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London. She specializes in post-colonial studies, Caribbean history, and oral history, focusing on themes like colonization, migration, and diaspora identities. Her work bridges academic research with community engagement, notably through her leadership in the AHRC-funded Windrush Scandal in its Transnational and Commonwealth Context project. She holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham and is a recipient of the RE Bradbury Memorial Prize.

Her research explores transnational Caribbean-British relations, including the legal and social impacts of immigration policies. Key outputs include a compendium of Edgar Mittelholzer’s early writings and oral history archives documenting the Windrush Generation’s experiences. She collaborates with institutions like the Black Cultural Archives and organizes public forums such as Guyana SPEAKS. Cox’s interdisciplinary approach integrates archival work, community activism, and educational outreach, as seen in her exhibitions and conferences addressing silenced histories of Black women and Caribbean diasporic identities.
