Juan Pedro Merino Rusillo

Juan Pedro Merino Rusillo is a Postdoctoral Researcher and Research Fellow at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), where he joined in September 2024. He works in the Medical Devices group under Dr. Alar Ainla's supervision as part of the FLUFET project, focusing on graphene-based field-effect transistors (GFETs) in microfluidic cell environments.

His educational background includes a PhD from CIC biomaGUNE and the Universidad del País Vasco (University of the Basque Country), where he specialized in covalent and non-covalent functionalization of graphene devices like SGFETs and MALDI arrays for biosensing applications. Prior postdoctoral work at KULeuven and BCMaterials centered on standardizing biosensing device performance through iterative design optimization.

Merino Rusillo's research expertise spans carbon-based nanomaterials functionalization, microfluidic integration, and biomedical sensor development. His work emphasizes translating graphene technologies into practical diagnostic platforms for early disease detection, with current efforts targeting GFET behavior in biological microenvironments. He actively contributes to the Diéguez Research Group at INL, advancing medical device innovation through nanotechnology.
