Juan Huang is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Endocrinology at Yale School of Medicine. His research focuses on understanding the interplay between gut microbiota, immune system dysfunction, and metabolic disorders such as type 1 diabetes and obesity. He investigates mechanisms linking microbial dysbiosis to autoimmune progression and metabolic inflammation, using mouse models and human population studies.
- Primary Affiliation: Yale School of Medicine, Department of Endocrinology
- Secondary Collaborations: Internal Medicine divisions at Yale
Key Research Interests:
- Mechanisms of gut microbiota in autoimmune diabetes pathogenesis
- Role of B-cell dysfunction in metabolic diseases
- Inflammatory pathways linking obesity to immune disorders
- Development of microbiome-based therapies for metabolic conditions
Recent work highlights novel roles of TLR9 deficiency in B cells promoting obesity through gut inflammation and identifies protective IL-10+ Breg cells derived from microbiota modulation. His studies also reveal distinct microbiota signatures across diabetes subtypes and their implications for personalized medicine.
Collaborations include teams led by Dr. Li Wen, Dr. Hongyu Zhao, and Dr. Flavius Wong, focusing on translational immunology and systems biology approaches.
