Juan Auz is a postdoc researcher at Tilburg University's Law School, focusing on socio-legal aspects of transnational environmental litigation in Latin America and the Caribbean. He holds a PhD from the Hertie School's Centre for Fundamental Rights in Berlin and was an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). His work includes extensive engagement with indigenous peoples' rights in the Amazon, as co-founder of Terra Mater and executive director of Fundación Pachamama. Currently, he serves as a board director for the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL), a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and a legal analyst for climate litigation databases like Columbia’s Sabin Center and NYU’s Climate Litigation Accelerator.
Education: PhD in Fundamental Rights from the Hertie School, Berlin.
Research Interests: Environmental law, transnational litigation dynamics, climate justice, human rights frameworks in environmental governance, and socio-legal dimensions of indigenous rights. His work bridges legal scholarship with grassroots activism, particularly in Latin American contexts.
