Ju Shen is an Associate Professor at the University of Dayton in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Computer Science. He directs the Interactive Visual Media Lab (IVIDIA), focusing on virtual reality (VR), computer vision, and machine learning for applications in education, rehabilitation, and human-computer interaction.
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, University of Kentucky (2014)
- M.Sc. in Computer Science, University of Birmingham, UK (2006)
His research spans computer vision, machine learning, and interactive media, with a recent emphasis on deep learning for 3D human pose estimation and medical imaging. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and secured grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Recent publications highlight:
- Deep learning techniques for polyp segmentation and human pose estimation (2023-2024)
- Advancements in unsupervised depth estimation and face alignment (2020-2021)
- Applications in robot navigation, telepresence, and behavior analytics (2015-2019)
Scientific recognition includes:
- Elevation to IEEE Senior Member (2016)
- Leadership roles at conferences like CVPR, ICME, and Healthcom
- Multiple STEM Catalyst Grants and Summer Research Fellowships
IVIDIA Lab serves as a hub for VR/AR development, supporting student projects and collaborations in 3D environment modeling, sensor integration, and interactive controller applications.
