João Alexandre Saraiva is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Minho, and a researcher at HASLab/INESC TEC in Braga, Portugal. He holds a MSc from the University of Minho (1993) and a PhD in Computer Science from Utrecht University (1999). His research focuses on programming language design, program analysis/optimization, and functional programming. He has supervised 8 PhD projects (5 completed) and over 30 MSc theses. Notable contributions include organizing the GTTSE summer schools and the ETAPS'07 conference. He coordinates national/international projects funded by FCT, EPSRC, and the EU, and serves on over 60 program committees.
Research interests span strategic attribute grammars, modern JavaScript adoption trends, mobile performance optimization, and energy-driven software techniques. His work integrates empirical studies with theoretical frameworks, emphasizing practical applications in software evolution and maintenance.
