Prof. Dr. Joz Motmans serves as a guest professor in Gender Studies at Ghent University's Centre for Research on Gender and Culture, where he teaches "Gender & Diversity" in the Master of Arts in Gender and Diversity program. Concurrently, he works as a senior expert & scientific staff member at the University Hospital of Ghent, coordinating Belgium's central information and expertise center on trans issues (www.transgenderinfo.be).
His educational background includes an MA in Clinical Psychology (Ghent University, 1999), a postgraduate in Women's Studies (University of Antwerp, 2002), and a PhD in Social Sciences (University of Antwerp, 2010).
Motmans specializes in transgender health research, with focus areas including gender transition processes, workplace inclusion for transgender individuals, voice modification, pediatric transgender healthcare, and intersex/DSD issues. His methodology emphasizes quantitative surveys alongside qualitative approaches, examining contemporary gender issues primarily within the Belgian and Western European context.
His recent publications reveal strong thematic concentration on transgender healthcare access, workplace transition support, voice-related challenges, and pediatric gender services evolution. As a co-founder and current President of the European Professional Association for Transgender Health (EPATH), Motmans plays a leadership role in advancing transgender healthcare standards across Europe.
