Joyoni Dey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Louisiana State University's College of Science. She holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (1999) and teaches courses including Advanced Medical Imaging Physics and Radiological Physics for Residents. Her research spans medical imaging physics, X-ray/neutron interferometry, deep learning applications, and tumor growth modeling.
Dr. Dey leads innovative projects in modulated phase grating interferometry for cancer screening and develops high-sensitivity gamma camera designs for cardiac SPECT. She holds multiple patents for SPECT camera design and phase contrast X-ray interferometry systems. Her work integrates computational modeling with experimental validation to advance diagnostic imaging capabilities.
She actively mentors graduate and undergraduate researchers, with students receiving recognition including the Best in Physics award at the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. Current research explores neutron interferometry for bone-metal joint imaging and deep learning approaches for artifact correction in interferometric systems.
