Joyce Totton is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Mount Royal University. She holds a PharmD from the University of Colorado and BScPharm/BMid degrees from Dalhousie University and Laurentian University, with additional studies in First Nations Studies and Traditional Environmental Knowledge at the University of Northern British Columbia. Her professional certifications include ACPR, RPh, RM, and IBCLC.
Dr. Totton has over two decades of experience in direct patient care as both a pharmacist and midwife since 1999. Her career includes a residency at SickKids Hospital, rotations in mental health/addictions and primary care, and midwifery practice since 2013. She teaches across disciplines, including nursing, medicine, pharmacy, and midwifery, in formats ranging from clinical placements to guest lectures for undergraduate to resident-level students.

- Pharmacotherapeutics in clinical systems
- Human lactation and breastfeeding support
- Mental health and substance use in healthcare contexts
Dr. Totton actively contributes to community service as Coordinator of the Perinatal Grief Support Group in Golden, BC. Her professional presentations include topics such as home birth management (2022) and cannabis use in breastfeeding (2022).
