Dr. Joyce Hoek is a Researcher at the Department of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology within the Faculty of Science at Utrecht University. She is affiliated with the Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Regulation and the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Science (UIPS).
Her research focuses on drug regulatory science and the interfaces between science and policy. Dr. Hoek specializes in studying evidence and decision making in drug regulation, primarily using qualitative methods. Her PhD dissertation analyzed how medicine regulators make decisions in practice through ethnographic research at the Dutch Medicines Evaluation Board (MEB).
Dr. Hoek is currently involved in projects including Nanospresso and Oncode Accelerator, where she studies the regulatory implications of innovations in medicine development. Her research interests also encompass open science, science policy, Science and Technology Studies (STS), and metascience.
Her recent publications demonstrate expertise in assessing drug effects credibility and regulatory uncertainty judgment, as well as exploring networks for Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP) in the Netherlands. Her work bridges academic research and practical regulatory applications in pharmaceutical science.
