Joy McMurrin is an Assistant Professor of English/Technical Writing & Digital Rhetoric at Utah Tech University, where she teaches courses ranging from foundational writing to advanced technical communication. She earned her Ph.D. in Technical Communication and Rhetoric from Texas Tech University, an M.A. in English from Northern Arizona University, a B.S. in Communication from Southern Utah University, and an Associate of General Education from Dixie State University, where she began her academic journey.

Her research spans interdisciplinary fields, including usability studies, UX design, analysis of power structures and justice, exploration of socioeconomic precarity, and rhetorical criticism. McMurrin has received recognition for her writing, including awards from contests during her early academic career. She actively engages with students through courses like ENGL 1010, ENGL 2100, and ENGL 6460, emphasizing professional writing, business ethics, and user-centered design.
As the M.A. Coordinator in English, she plays a key role in shaping graduate education while maintaining her research and teaching responsibilities. Her office is located in HCC 448, and she remains deeply connected to the Utah Tech campus community.
