Joy McCorriston is a Professor and Director of the Middle East Studies Center at Ohio State University. Her research centers on agricultural origins, paleoenvironmental conditions, and human-environment interactions in the ancient Near East and southern Arabia.
She directs the Roots of Agriculture in Southern Arabia (RASA) Research Project, which investigates prehistoric human adaptations and landscape management in changing Holocene environments. Key research themes include the development of pastoral societies, monument construction in arid landscapes, and the impacts of climate change on ancient communities.
Her publications showcase archaeobotanical analyses, paleoenvironmental reconstructions using rock hyrax middens, and studies of monumental landscapes. Recent work explores hydrologic variability in Oman, Iron Age wood exploitation, and agricultural economies in medieval Armenia. Methodologically, she integrates archaeological excavation, paleoclimatic proxies, and radiocarbon dating.
