Joy Alexander is an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences, University of South Carolina. She has been part of Columbia's dance community since her early training at Calvert-Brodie and specializes in tap and musical theatre pedagogy.
Education
- Attended AMDA (American Musical and Dramatic Academy) in New York, studying stage and film performance.
Professional Experience
Alexander served as dance captain/performer aboard Holland America’s cruise line and holds numerous acting, dancing, and choreography credits. Since returning to South Carolina in 2006, she has taught concurrently at Columbia Ballet School and Town Theatre.
Research Focus
Her expertise centers on:
- Technical and artistic aspects of tap dance
- Musical theatre performance and choreography
