José Carlos Rufino Amaro is a Professor at the Technology and Management School (ESTiG) of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB), Portugal. He holds an MSc (1998) and PhD (2008) in Distributed Systems and Parallel/Distributed Systems, respectively, from the University of Minho.
- Current roles: Professor at ESTiG/IPB, head of ESTiG Laboratory of Advanced Computing (since 2004), and IPB scientific/cluster computing infrastructures (since 2010)
Research Interests span Parallel/Distributed Computing, with applications in High Energy Physics, Bioinformatics, Wireless Networks, and Numerical Optimization. His work includes deploying one of Portugal’s first wireless community networks in the early 2000s and leading R&D projects in heterogeneous computing, system virtualization, and RNA classification via the Resonant Recognition Model.
Article Trends reflect a focus on GPU acceleration, packet capturing platforms, RNA preprocessing techniques, and honeybee genomics. His collaborations extend to domains like meteorological data reconstruction and stochastic epidemic modeling.
Labs and Leadership: He has managed the ESTiG Laboratory of Advanced Computing since 2004, the ESTiG IT Centre since 2009, and IPB’s scientific clusters since 2010. He also served multiple terms as head of the Informatics Engineering degree program (1997–2002, 2014–2019).
