Josue David Cisneros

Josue David Cisneros is an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with the Department of Communication, Department of Latina/Latino Studies, Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies, and Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory. His work bridges rhetorical theory, critical race studies, and immigration politics.

His research examines how public communication shapes social identities, particularly race, citizenship, and immigration. He analyzes rhetorics of resistance and social movement communication, focusing on Latinx communities and border discourse.

Recent publications explore abolitionist border theory, queer undocumented narratives, and migration as a critical political framework. Awards include the Wrage-Baskerville Award, Early Career Award from NCA, and Emerging Scholar Award.
