Joshua Reineke, an Associate Professor and Director of the Haarberg Drug, Disease and Delivery Research Center at South Dakota State University (SDSU), specializes in pharmacokinetics, drug delivery systems, and polymer science. He joined SDSU in 2015 and teaches in the pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences graduate programs. His research focuses on developing nanomedicine models for clinical translation, targeting pancreatic cancer, tuberculosis, and cancer metastasis.
Education:
- B.S. in Biophysics (Honors) & A.B. in History, Brown University (2003)
- Ph.D. in Medical Sciences, Brown University (2008)
Research Interests:
Dr. Reineke’s work integrates materials science with pharmacology to create novel drug delivery systems. Key areas include:
- 3D tumor spheroid models for metastasis studies
- Targeted nanomedicines for pancreatic cancer
- Bioadhesive food protein nanoparticles for pediatric oral delivery
- Immunomodulatory lipid-polymer hybrids
- Lymph node-targeted breast cancer therapies
Labs & Teams:
He leads the Reineke Lab, which focuses on translational nanomedicine. The lab actively collaborates on projects involving zebrafish screening, MOF particles, and dendrimer-mediated drug delivery.
Teaching & Service:
- Coordinates graduate seminars and the Department Seminar Series
- Advises the SDSU student chapter of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Serves on faculty committees including Curriculum Progression and Admissions
