Joshua M. Silverstein is a Professor of Law at the William H. Bowen School of Law, University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He specializes in teaching Contracts, Secured Transactions, and Jurisprudence, employing the Socratic method to develop students' analytical skills. His research focuses on bankruptcy law, contract interpretation, and grading theory, with notable works cited nationally. Silverstein has won multiple teaching awards, including the 2022 Bailey Teaching Award, and a 2021 service award for advocating academic freedom.
He earned a B.A. from Hamilton College and J.D. from NYU School of Law (magna cum laude, Order of the Coif). Before academia, he clerked for Judge Suzanne B. Conlon and practiced at Mayer Brown and Freeborn & Peters, handling bankruptcy and commercial litigation. His service includes reforming the law school’s grading policy, advising student organizations, and over 500 hours of pro bono work.
Research highlights include empirical studies on contract interpretation and critiques of bankruptcy procedures. His scholarship has influenced legal academia, media, and policy debates on grading fairness and corporate reorganizations.
