Joshua Liashenko

Dr. Joshua Liashenko is an Instructional Assistant Professor of Anthropology in the Sociology Department at Chapman University's Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside, where he developed expertise in medical anthropology and LGBTQ+ health disparities. Dr. Liashenko serves as the Director of LGBTQ Studies and maintains teaching availability through his Roosevelt Hall 218 office.

As a medical anthropologist, Dr. Liashenko's work critically examines:

• Transgender healthcare and clinician-patient dynamics in gender-affirming care
• Telemedicine applications in HIV prevention (PrEP delivery systems)
• Decolonization frameworks in anthropological education
• Community trauma responses within LGBTQ+ populations

His 2024 AIDS Education and Prevention study with USC colleagues analyzed structural barriers to PrEP access for Latinx communities using the i-PARIHS implementation science framework. The 2023 Society for Cultural Anthropology publication details innovative teaching approaches that challenge traditional theory pedagogy through anxiety-reduction strategies and critical canon deconstruction.

Current research interests include:

Dr. Liashenko's methodological approach combines ethnographic fieldwork with community partnership models, as evidenced by his 2023 collaboration with Nepali aviation researchers through the Fieldsights platform. This work examined temporal infrastructure challenges in global aviation through a cultural anthropology lens.
