Joshua DeSon is a Clinical Psychology Fellow and Postgraduate Associate in Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine's Pediatric Gender Clinic. He is a PhD candidate in Clinical Psychology at Fordham University (anticipated 2025), with an M.A. from Fordham (2021) and a B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University (2017). His research focuses on adolescent development, mood/anxiety disorders, and trauma-informed care for gender and sexual minorities. He has contributed to systematic reviews on microaggressions' impact on LGBTQ+ youth and studies on protective factors for transgender mental health.
DeSon has held roles at the National Institute of Mental Health (postbaccalaureate fellow, 2019), BronxCare Health System, and the Institute of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Research. Awards include NIH Intramural Research Awards (2017–2018) and Fordham’s Senior Teaching Fellowship (2023). His clinical work emphasizes cognitive-behavioral therapy, family-oriented treatment, and neuro/psychological assessment across diverse settings, including pediatric gender clinics and forensic mental health units.
Publications span peer-reviewed journals (e.g., LGBT Health, The Behavior Therapist) and edited volumes on nonsuicidal self-injury and youth suicide prevention. He has presented at conferences such as the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
