Josephine Jewkes

Josephine Jewkes is a Professor of Classical Ballet at the Academy of Dance, Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHIO). With a career spanning performance, education, and academic contributions, she combines her background in architecture with dance expertise. She trained at prestigious institutions including the RBS White Lodge and Bush Davies Schools, later becoming a Principal Dancer with London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet) and Rambert Dance Company.

Her teaching roles include positions at the Central School of Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet School, and Royal Academy of Dance. She holds a BA (Hons) in Architecture from Kingston University (2002), which informs her unique perspective on spatial dynamics in dance.

Jewkes has authored articles in Dancing Times, Dance Now, and collaborated on books like The Art of Teaching Classical Ballet with Woytec Lowski and Maria Fay’s Floor Barre. Her research focuses on pedagogical methods and artistic performance analysis.
