Dr. Josephine E. Quillian serves as Professor of Music and Program Director of Keyboard Studies in the Department of Music at Dallas Baptist University's College of Fine Arts, where she has been a faculty member since 1995. An active solo performer, she is frequently engaged as an adjudicator for piano festivals, competitions, and solo literature contests across regional and national platforms.
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Baylor University
- Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music
- Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
Dr. Quillian's research and professional practice centers on keyboard studies with dual emphases on technical pedagogy and collaborative artistry. Her post-doctoral work with Sheila Paige and administrative role in the 2005 Piano Wellness Seminar established her commitment to biomechanically sound piano techniques. This philosophy directly informed her comprehensive restructuring of DBU's undergraduate piano curriculum to integrate pedagogical training and accompanying skills, reflecting her belief in music as a collaborative discipline spanning vocal and instrumental partnerships.
Her accolades include the James C. McKinney Outstanding Performer Award received during doctoral studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
In her leadership capacity, Dr. Quillian has redesigned the keyboard studies program to cultivate versatile musicians through specialized coursework in pedagogy and ensemble collaboration, preparing students for diverse performance and educational careers.
