Joseph Ross is a Professor of Medicine (General Medicine) and Public Health (Health Policy and Management) at Yale University, affiliated with the Yale School of Medicine and Yale School of Public Health. He holds leadership roles, including Deputy Editor at JAMA, co-founder of medRxiv, and Chair of the Medicare Evidence Development & Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC). His research focuses on health policy, pharmaceutical regulation, and healthcare quality, with a particular emphasis on policy impacts and medical device/evidence development. Ross collaborates extensively with interdisciplinary teams, including the Center for Regulatory Rigor, Integrity, and Transparency (CRRIT) at Yale Law School and the Yale-Mayo Clinic Center for Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSI).
Education: MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine (2001), MHS from Yale School of Medicine (2006). Postgraduate training in internal medicine at Montefiore Medical Center and a RWJF Clinical Scholars fellowship at Yale. His work spans academic, policy, and clinical domains, addressing challenges in healthcare delivery and regulatory practices.
Research interests include Medicare policy, pharmaceutical regulation, and postmarket surveillance. He has contributed to studies on medical device recalls, coverage decisions, and healthcare equity. Ross’s publications analyze systemic issues in healthcare, such as shareholder payouts in healthcare companies, advertising of compounded drugs, and disparities in clinical trial representation.
