Joseph Mathew is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at Monash University, affiliated with Alfred Hospital and the National Trauma Research Institute. He serves as Deputy Director of Alfred Health Trauma Services and Head of International Programs (South Asia) at the National Trauma Research Institute, playing a pivotal role in advancing trauma care systems across Asia.
His research spans cutting-edge areas including nanotechnology for haemorrhage control and bone healing, AI-driven clinical decision support systems, and mobile health applications for prehospital trauma care. He has led major international collaborations such as the Australia-India Trauma System Collaboration and developed innovative tools like the AI-backed Pandemic Intervention and Monitoring System (PIMS) for remote COVID-19 surveillance.
Dr. Mathew’s recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on trauma outcomes, intervention efficacy, and digital health integration. His work emphasizes translational research, combining clinical innovation with technological advancement to improve trauma systems globally.

As a reviewer for multiple international journals and former Chair of the Trauma Subcommittee of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Mathew contributes significantly to academic leadership. He is also a member of the Trauma Verification Committee of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international conferences.
Dr. Mathew has founded and co-created key trauma education programs, including the cadaveric Trauma Procedures Course, Emergency Trauma Management Course, and Trauma Team Training Program, which have enhanced training standards across institutions. His leadership in research projects such as the Trauma System - State Wide Capability Program and the King Saud Medical City - The Alfred International Trauma Program highlights his commitment to global trauma system development.
