Joseph Leslie serves as an Associate Lecturer in Genomic Medicine at the University of Exeter. He is a key member of the rare disease genetics research group led by Professors Andrew Crosby and Emma Baple, maintaining active collaborations with the Exeter NHS Genomics Laboratory and the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre.
His academic background includes:
- PhD from the University of Exeter
- MRes from the University of the West of England, Bristol
- BSc from the University of the West of England, Bristol
Leslie specializes in applying cutting-edge genomic and omic technologies to identify molecular causes of rare genetic disorders, with particular focus on genetically isolated communities and underserved populations. His research centers on ciliary dysfunction disorders including primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) and situs abnormalities, driving translational applications through clinical-academic partnerships.
He actively contributes to the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre's mission of developing genomic diagnostics and therapies for rare diseases, bridging laboratory discoveries with clinical implementation.
