Joseph Gibbons

Joseph Gibbons is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at San Diego State University's College of Arts and Letters. His research examines how neighborhoods influence well-being, focusing on ethnoracial inequality through residential segregation and gentrification, and their impacts on health and community connection.

Education:

• B.A. in Sociology, Ramapo College
• M.A. in Sociology, New School for Social Research
• Ph.D. in Sociology, University at Albany

Research methodologies: Combines in-person interviews, census analysis, electronic health records, and social media data. As Associate Director of the Human Dynamics in the Mobile Age center, he collaborates with experts across disciplines including Communications, City Planning, and Public Health.
