Joseph Clark is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Kentucky's College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on the early modern Atlantic world, the Caribbean, and environmental history. Clark holds a BA from Boston University (2010), an MA (2012), and a PhD (2016) from Johns Hopkins University.
His current book project explores witchcraft and contraband in the early modern Caribbean, examining intersections of folk healing and informal trade. His first book, Veracruz and the Caribbean in the Seventeenth Century, analyzes material exchanges shaping social institutions in colonial Mexico.

Research interests include African diaspora studies, colonial borderlands, and environmental adaptation. Teaches courses on Latin America, the Atlantic World, and histories of race and empire.
