Joseph Cazier

Joseph Cazier is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Information Systems at Arizona State University (ASU), where he focuses on data analytics education and application. He holds the title of Full Emeritus Professor from Appalachian State University, where he previously served as Dean’s Club Professor, Associate Dean, and Founding Executive Director of the Center for Analytics Research and Education. He is also an analytics consultant for CGIAR, a global research organization, and leads the Center for AI and Data Analytics at ASU. His work spans bee health monitoring, healthcare analytics, cybersecurity, and sustainability.

Education: Ph.D. in Information Systems from Arizona State University. He has taught courses including Strategic Value of IT, Problem Solving & Analytics, and Applied Project courses since 2022.

Research Interests: Cazier’s work integrates data science with real-world applications in agriculture (beekeeping biosecurity), healthcare (nurse retention, medical devices), energy (utility data ecosystems), and cybersecurity. His recent projects include developing predictive models for honeybee colony survival and analyzing the impact of climate change on pollinator behavior.

Publications: Over 100 scholarly works, including peer-reviewed articles, books, and book chapters. His 2023 book Leading in Analytics: The Seven Critical Tasks for Executives to Master in the Age of Big Data provides executive guidance on analytics leadership. Recent articles focus on Varroa infestation prediction, temperature modeling for honeybee colonies, and power grid data ecosystems.

Advising & Grants: Co-founded the International Working Group for Bee Data Standardization and served as Chief Analytics Officer for HiveTracks.com. His work with the United Nations and European Parliament highlights his global engagement in data-driven policy.

Labs/Teams: Leads ASU’s Center for AI and Data Analytics, collaborates with the Center for Analytics Research and Education, and advises CGIAR on analytics strategies.
