Joseph A. Stramondo is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Humanities at San Diego State University. He serves as Director of the Institute for Ethics and Public Affairs and Interim Chair of the Department of Classics and Humanities. During the 2022-23 Academic Year, he held the Hubert Mader Visiting Professor in Bioethics at Saint Louis University's Albert Gnaegi Center for Healthcare Ethics.
Dr. Stramondo's research focuses on reframing biomedical ethics through the lens of disability lived experiences, examining their role as moral knowledge sources for clinical practice, biomedical research, and health policy. His work spans topics including:
- Informed consent procedures
- Reproductive ethics
- Pandemic triage protocols
- Assistive neurotechnology
He is currently developing a book manuscript titled The Ethics of Choosing Disability under contract with Oxford University Press. His publications appear in journals such as The Hastings Center Report, Ethical Theory and Moral Practice, and Kennedy Institute for Ethics Journal.
