Josep Fontecuberta

Josep Fontecuberta is a Research Professor at the Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), part of the Spanish National Research Council. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Barcelona in 1982 and previously served as an assistant professor there after completing postdoctoral research at Oxford University.

Fontecuberta's research centers on functional oxides as strongly correlated electronic systems exhibiting ferroic orders (magnetic and ferroelectric phenomena) and exceptional magneto-electric/optic properties. His group, the Multifunctional Thin Films and Complex Structures Group, currently investigates materials and devices for sustainable applications. With over 400 scientific publications, his work bridges fundamental condensed matter physics and advanced materials engineering.

He serves as editor for Advanced Electronic Materials, Solid State Communications, and Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, and leads his research group in developing thin-film technologies for next-generation electronic and energy-efficient devices.
