Josep Díaz is a Professor in Computer Science at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), where he has been a Full Professor since 1984. He earned his PhD (Doctor en Ciencias) in 1982 from Universidad de Valencia and has held academic roles such as Lecturer (1979-1984) and Instructor of Mathematics at Riverside City College (1977-1979). His research spans theoretical computer science, focusing on randomized techniques in combinatorics, complexity theory, approximation algorithms, and game theory.

Díaz's work involves theoretical models for wireless networks, graph theory, and algorithms for dynamic data spreading. His contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards, including Spain's highest computer science honor and a six-year Catalan Government research distinction. He has led major European research projects like COMBSTRU and participated in advisory committees for the Kyoto Prize and the Japanese New Horizons in Computing initiative.
