Jose Luis Rodriguez Gil is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environment and Geography at the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources, University of Manitoba. His academic background includes a PhD in Environmental Biology/Toxicology (University of Guelph, 2015), an MSc in Environmental Science and Technology (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Spain, 2008), and a BSc in Environmental Science (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, 2006). He teaches courses such as Data Science with R for Environmental Research and Ecotoxicological Risk Characterization.
His research focuses on three core areas: 1) Characterization of traditional and novel stressors in aquatic ecosystems, 2) Effects of these stressors on ecosystem structure and function, and 3) Development of methodologies for regulatory and management frameworks. His work frequently employs ecosystem-scale studies at the IISD Experimental Lakes Area (IISD-ELA), using mesocosms and whole-lake experiments to investigate contaminant fate and effects in aquatic systems.
Recent research highlights include analyzing pesticide exposure in Ontario surface waters, assessing organic UV filters in Iberian coastal waters, and studying diluted bitumen spills in boreal lakes. Rodriguez-Gil's publications emphasize methodological advancements and regulatory applications in environmental toxicology.
