Jose Javier Muñoz

Jose Javier Muñoz is a Professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), affiliated with the Departament de Matemàtiques and the LACÀN research group. His work focuses on computational mechanics, biomechanics, and mechanobiology, with applications to tissue morphogenesis, wound healing, and cancer progression. He earned his PhD in Aeronautics from Imperial College London and holds degrees from UPC and École Centrale Paris.

Research interests include vertex methods, finite element analysis, and inverse problems in biological systems. Recent studies explore optimal control of contractile elastic bodies, mechanical stimuli in tissue growth, and stress-dependent morphogenesis. Muñoz advises multiple PhD and master’s students and collaborates internationally on projects funded by agencies like the European Union.
