SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestryمعرفی
Dr. Jose Giner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. His research operates at the interface of organic chemistry and biology, focusing on bioorganic chemistry, natural products biosynthesis, NMR applications, and marine sterol biochemistry. He maintains interdisciplinary collaborations with marine biologists and ecologists to investigate natural products in plant defenses and harmful algae.
His educational background includes a Ph.D. from Stanford University and postdoctoral training at ETH-Zurich and Harvard University. Current research explores enzyme-catalyzed reactions in natural product biosynthesis using mechanistic enzymology, biomimetic synthesis, and advanced NMR techniques.
Research publications demonstrate consistent focus on sterol biochemistry, enzyme mechanisms in terpenoid pathways, and marine natural products. Recent work (2016-2023) emphasizes sterol methyltransferases, hedgehog protein processing, and novel triterpenoid synthesis. Analytical method development for glycoside analysis and NMR applications also feature prominently.
Dr. Giner advises graduate students in organic chemistry and natural products research, including doctoral candidate Babatunde Olagunju. His laboratory utilizes state-of-the-art NMR facilities at ESF for structural investigations of biologically active compounds.
