Jose Carvajal Lopez

Jose Carvajal Lopez is an Associate Professor (Investigador Científico) at the Institute of Heritage Sciences (INCIPIT), CSIC, Spain. Previously, he held roles including Lecturer in Islamic Archaeology at UCL Qatar (2013–2023) and Lecturer in Historical Archaeology at SAAH (2018–2023). His research focuses on early Islamic period archaeology, ceramics analysis, and Gulf region societies.

• Education: PhD and undergraduate studies in Archaeology at the University of Granada, Spain.
• Key Experience: Marie Curie Fellowship at the University of Sheffield (2009–2012), where he applied archaeological science to ceramic studies.

Research Interests: Specializes in early Islamic ceramics (8th–11th centuries CE), Gulf archaeology, and interdisciplinary methods in historical archaeology. Expands into Qatar’s sociocultural landscapes and comparative studies across Islamic countries.
