Jose Carbajal

Jose Carbajal is an Associate Professor of Social Work at Stephen F. Austin State University, affiliated with the School of Social Work. He holds a PhD and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). His teaching focuses on research methods, policy analysis, and advanced generalist practice within MSW and DSW programs. Dr. Carbajal has over 15 years of clinical experience, specializing in EMDR therapy and trauma intervention.

His research prioritizes psychological trauma’s impact on individuals and communities, neuroscience applications in clinical practice, faith-based trauma recovery, first responder mental health, and social disparity. He secured a $200,000 HRSA grant to study the opioid crisis in East Texas with the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (ADAC). Dr. Carbajal also serves on the editorial boards of Social Work and Journal of Social Work Scholar-Practitioner, and contributed to the ASWB/CSWE Licensing and Regulation National Taskforce.
