Joscha Abels

Joscha Abels is a postdoctoral research associate and lecturer at the Department of Political Economy, University of Tübingen. His work focuses on the intersection of global geoeconomic competition, European Union political economy, and infrastructural policy. He leads the DFG-funded project EUInfra, analyzing EU strategies in globalization, and previously contributed to the Excellence Strategy-funded Infrastructures and Global Ordering (IGLO). He holds a summa cum laude PhD in Political Science from Tübingen, with prior studies in political science, economics, and international relations at Mannheim and Oslo.

• Research Areas: Global geoeconomic competition, EU infrastructure policy, technological sovereignty, and geopolitical conflicts.
• Teaching: International Relations, International Political Economy, and research methods at both bachelor’s and master’s levels.
• Publications: Articles in European Journal of International Relations, Journal of Common Market Studies, and Competition & Change, alongside his 2023 book The Politics of the Eurogroup.
• Collaborations: Member of the Second Cold War Observatory research collective and contributor to the Jean Monnet Centre PRRIDE project on multi-level parliamentarism.
