Jos van der Sterren

Jos van der Sterren is a Senior Researcher and Lecturer at the Academy for Tourism since 2003, specializing in tourism stakeholder management, financial inclusion, and sustainable development. His work spans over 30 countries, with long-term assignments in Kenya, Nicaragua, and Argentina. He focuses on fund management, social investment, and SME development, leveraging expertise in financial engineering and institutional governance.

Research Interests include sustainable tourism practices, circular economy applications, aviation accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility, and tourism's socio-economic impacts. He actively collaborates with global institutions and governments to address challenges in urban tourism, supply chain sustainability, and financial inclusion.

He leads or co-leads major projects such as CrossReTour (EU-funded) and Inclusive Aviation, addressing tourism resilience, digital/green transitions, and staff training needs. His work is disseminated through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and media engagement (e.g., interviews on AD, ANWB, and Nritmedia).

Key contributions include advising on resort management, sustainable campsite practices, and policy development for tourism SMEs. He chairs workshops and organizes events like the BUas Research and Development Day, fostering academic-industry collaboration.
