Jorien Zevenberg

Jorien Zevenberg is a Lecturer in Science & Society and a PhD candidate in Sustainable Nature Conservation at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering. She is affiliated with the Integrated Research on Energy, Environment & Society (IREES) group and the Energy and Sustainability Research Institute Groningen.

Her research focuses on nature policy, national parks, sustainability, and agricultural landscapes. She holds a Master's in Biology (2009) with a thesis on national parks' policy and societal embedment in the Netherlands. Her current PhD explores pathways to sustainable nature conservation, emphasizing nature-inclusive agriculture and Dutch national parks.

Her recent articles analyze land-sharing/sparing strategies, historical national park policies, and community-driven conservation. She collaborates with institutions like the Science & Society Group and emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to environmental governance.

Zevenberg teaches courses on ethics in science, biology-society interfaces, and future planet innovation. She actively contributes to public outreach and policy discussions on sustainability.
