Jorge Tavares da Silva

Jorge Tavares da Silva is an Assistant Professor at the Universidade da Beira Interior (Portugal), specializing in International Relations with a focus on China Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Coimbra (2012), focusing on Sino-Formosan conflict mediation through Taiwanese business networks. His academic career includes visiting roles at the Universities of Aveiro and Minho, and he has taught extensively across Portuguese higher education institutions. He is affiliated with the GOVCOPP research unit and co-founded the Observatory of China (Portugal) and CEIDSTAD. His research emphasizes China’s international relations, conflict resolution, and the role of non-state actors in geopolitical dynamics.

Prof. Silva’s research spans topics such as China’s Belt and Road Initiative, cross-strait relations, and tourism’s role in peacebuilding. He has authored/co-authored books like BRICS and the New International Order and edited volumes on tourism and conflict transformation. His work appears in journals such as Archiv Orientalni and Zhongguo Yanjiu. He has advised students on topics ranging from ASEAN decision-making to China’s foreign policy strategies.
