Jorge Quintana Navarrete is Assistant Professor of Spanish at Dartmouth College with expertise in Mexican cultural production from the 19th-20th centuries, Utopian Studies, Environmental Humanities, and Critical Theory. He holds a PhD from Princeton University and MA from Universidad de Sonora. His research examines the intersections of geological sciences, racial theories, and utopian thought in Mexican modernity, with recent work exploring hydraulic energy systems and mining racialization.
Navarrete's publications demonstrate consistent engagement with Mexican literary and cultural history through frameworks of environmental aesthetics. His articles investigate unconventional subjects including botanical ethics, zoo-based scientific experimentation, and inorganic life concepts. Current research connects political geology with nation-building narratives while examining post-revolutionary biotechnological imaginaries.
