Jorge Andraz

Jorge Andraz is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Economics, University of Algarve, Portugal, where he has built a distinguished academic career progressing from Assistant Professor (2001-2020) to Associate Professor (2020-2023) and finally to his current Full Professor position (2022-present). His academic journey began with undergraduate studies at Catholic University of Portugal, followed by graduate work at the University of Algarve where he earned both his Master's degree and PhD from the Faculty of Economics.

Professor Andraz's research focuses primarily on tourism economics and sustainable development, with particular emphasis on the Algarve region of Portugal. His work explores the economic impacts of tourism, climate change effects on coastal destinations, quality of life assessment in urban environments, and green infrastructure planning. Recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate increasing interdisciplinary engagement, connecting economic analysis with environmental planning and social justice considerations.

His publication record includes over 80 works, with recent contributions appearing in journals such as European Planning Studies, Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, Tourism Planning & Development, and Journal of Sustainable Tourism. Professor Andraz has secured research funding for projects including 'Observation and monitoring of the Algarve tourist destination' (2021-2023) and 'Basis for the Evaluation of the Economic Impact of Climate Change on Costal Zones Specialized in Sun and Beach Tourism' (2012-2013).

Professor Andraz actively supervises graduate students, with numerous master's theses completed under his guidance covering topics related to tourism economics, regional development, and applied economic analysis. His students' work often addresses practical economic challenges facing the Algarve region and Portugal more broadly.
