معرفی
Dr. Jorg Massen is an Assistant Professor in the Animal Behavior and Cognition Group within the Department of Environmental Biology at the Faculty of Science, Utrecht University. His academic work focuses on comparative psychology with specialization in social cognition, examining the mechanisms underlying animal social relations, cooperative and prosocial behaviors across various primate and bird species.
Dr. Massen's research expertise spans several key areas:
- Animal Cognition and Social Behavior
- Comparative Psychology across species
- Prosocial and cooperative behaviors in animals
- Cognitive mechanisms in primate and bird species
- Experimental and observational approaches to animal behavior
Dr. Massen's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on prosocial behavior across species, self-awareness in great apes, and collaborative research initiatives in primatology. His work spans multiple disciplines including primatology, cognitive science, and behavioral ecology, with particular attention to methodological innovation in studying animal cognition.
Dr. Massen has received notable recognition for his work, including:
- Tinbergen Award (2018)
- Chimpanzee pro-sociality and personality award (2010)
Dr. Massen is actively involved in academic service and leadership, serving as:
- Board Member of the Dr. JL Dobberke Foundation for Comparative Psychology (KNAW)
- Board Member of the Cognition, Behavior and Evolution Network (CBEN)
- Secretary General of the Austrian Research Centre for Primatology, Affenberg Landskron, Austria
- Academic editor at PeerJ
- Member of the Departmental Advisory Committee (DAC) of the Department of Biology, Utrecht University
He teaches several courses at Utrecht University including Cognition and socio-ecology, Behavioral biology, Behavioral observations, Measuring Behavior, Neurobiology of behavior, and Theory of Animal Behavior, contributing significantly to the education of future behavioral scientists.
