Jordon Hemingway serves as Assistant Professor for Earth Surface Evolution at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, ETH Zurich, holding this position since June 2021. Based at the Geological Institute in Zurich, Switzerland, his work bridges geological and biological processes in Earth's history.
His research centers on Earth surface evolution, with critical focus areas including biogeochemical cycling, Precambrian geobiology, and sedimentary system dynamics from source to sink. Through his research group Evolution of the Earth's surface, he investigates how biological processes have shaped planetary surface environments over geological time, particularly during early Earth history.
Dr. Hemingway teaches advanced courses including Geomicrobiology and Biogeochemistry Lab Practical (651-4044-01L), Seminar on Precambrian Geobiology and Biogeochemical Cycles (651-4145-00L), and Source to Sink Sedimentary Systems (651-4341-00L), providing students with hands-on exploration of Earth surface processes and ancient environmental systems.
