معرفی
Dr. Jordan Lewis is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of South Carolina, affiliated with the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on adaptive evolution, host-parasite dynamics, and ecological change using experimental evolution with microbes, nematodes, and bacteriophages. He investigates host defenses, microbial persistence, and evolutionary trade-offs related to virulence and resistance. Dr. Lewis also engages in bioethics, emphasizing science outreach and responsible research practices.
Education:
- B.S. in Biology and Environmental Science, Winthrop University (Rock Hill, SC)
- Ph.D. in Population Biology, Ecology, and Evolution, Emory University (Atlanta, GA)
- Postdoctoral Training: Yale University, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department
Research Interests:
Dr. Lewis explores how populations adapt to environmental stressors through lab-based experimental evolution and field observations. Key areas include:
- Evolution of host defenses under parasite pressures
- Microbial adaptation to phages and ecological change
- Ecological impacts on disease burden in human populations
- Ethical implications of biotechnology and future technologies
Grants & Advising:
Recipient of an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biology (2022). The Lewis Lab will recruit undergraduate students starting Spring 2025. He has served as a teaching fellow, diversity fellow, and graduate student recruiter.
Labs & Teams:
Primary affiliation with the Lewis Lab at the University of South Carolina, focusing on experimental evolution and microbial ecology.
