Jordan A Sand is a Professor of Japanese History at Georgetown University's College, holding dual appointments in the Department of History and the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. He specializes in modern Japanese history, urban studies, material culture, and the history of everyday life. His research bridges architecture, urbanism, and colonialism, with notable works exploring Edo's urban structures, Tokyo's postindustrial memory, and colonial legacies in material culture. Sand earned his PhD in History from Columbia University and an MA in Architecture History from the University of Tokyo.
