His research focuses on disaster risk reduction, smallholder agriculture, climate change, and more-than-human ontologies, often examining these through the lens of social and cultural anthropology in Southeast Asia.
He has contributed to courses like 'Academische vaardigheden' and 'Kwalitatieve onderzoeksmethoden 1'. Recent activities include organizing the 2024 'Environmental Justice and Natural Resources' conference as Chair. His work frequently involves field studies in Lombok, Indonesia, analyzing topics such as traditional knowledge systems (e.g., Subawe, Awiq-Awiq), faith-based organizations' roles in disaster preparedness, and post-disaster community solidarity (gotong royong).
Media engagements include discussions on multispecies relationships in Lombok and Netherlands contexts, and reflections on his immersive fieldwork with Lombok farmers. His research outputs span peer-reviewed articles, book reviews, and interdisciplinary explorations of environmental justice and social protection policies.
